New Podcast Radio Show!!

Jessica and Mary Beth have posted the 5th installment of the Dr Pepper Museum's podcast radio show for your listening enjoyment!!

The Sign is Up!!

As part of the renovation of the Kellum-Rotan building our plan has always been to display a large Dr Pepper neon sign on the side of the building. The sign, and two others like it, were originally suspended on a frame above the company headquarters in Dallas on the Mockingbird plant. The plant was a famous landmark in Dallas, and many of you Texas readers may remember seeing it at one time. The addition of our neon sign to the side of the building was completed on Tuesday wil wonderful results! The sign looks amazing! Check out these pics then come check it out for yourself in person!

The Military Exhibit is Up!!

Hello faithful friends! The military exhibit, which replaced the Dr Pepper in the Movies exhibit, wsa installed on November 17th and is now up and running. It is very bright and fun to look at, and the graphics and nostalga from the 1940s is always entertaining. We hope you can come visit us and enjoy this new addition to our gallery!

Military Pictures!!

Calling all proud military personnel or family members! In exactly one month from today on November 17 we will debut our Dr Pepper and the Military exhibit, and we want YOUR loved ones to be a part of it! We have already received several pictures of the troops enjoying Dr Pepper in Iraq and Afghanistan which has been sent to them from home, and we need more to make our exhibit great! Although Dr Pepper does not have the same affiliation with the military that it did during WWII (which is what the exhibit will focus on) we have heard many accounts of service men and women feeling comforted and reminded of home when they are sent Dr Pepper. We would love for you to share with us!*

If you would like to submit a picture, please accompany it with the name of the person submitting it, the name and unit/rank of the people in the picture, and a phone number where we can reach you if we have any questions. Please email all entries to collections@drpeppermuseum.com.

*Submitting a picture does not guarantee that it will be displayed. The final exhibit contents are subject to the discretion of the Museum staff, but all entries will be considered and kept in the Museum archives regardless of whether or not they are used. Thank you for your entries!

Texas State Fair & BIG NEWS!!!!

Ok, while Mary Beth and Jennie were living it up in Las Vegas I was toiling in Dallas getting ready for the annual Texas State Fair exhibit. It was a collaboration with Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (CSAB) and the DP Museum to exhibit an historical time line of Dr Pepper. I helped write the text and supplied collection pieces for part of the display. It was really a fun project! I also got to do some sound bytes for a corporate press release. What on you may ask? Well. Here is some big news for the museum. Corporate headquarters has their own collection of soft drink memorabilia. Around 70,000 objects value at over $2 million and they are loaning it to us on a permanent basis. This is a HUGE deal!!! The musuem only has 20,000 objects and the addition of CSABs collection will enhance our exhibits three fold! Fortunately we are working on expanding our storage space next door and have a special room set aside just for this collection. Awesome!!!

I went up to Dallas last Saturday and looked to see if people were taking a look at the exhibit. OMG!!! It was like a cattle stampede except really really slow. There were soooo many people!!! On average, the Texas State Fair receives over 3 million visitors. WOW!!!! If you have a chance, go see the exhibit. It's in the Food & Fiber Pavilion. The show's almost over!!! Last day is Sunday, October 22.

The rest of the week....

As you can tell from the pictures below, the 2006 Dr Pepper Bottler's Convention was a very busy time for us! On Monday the Company Store officially opened to a huge crowd of Dr Pepper bottlers and Jennie, Jack, Linda and I greeted people, helped with questions, passed out the chip cups that we ordered especially for the event which we stuffed with our mail order catalogs, and also ended up taking over the bubble game station. The story behind that is that people had to play the bubble game to enter to win a guitar signed by Rod Stewart, and the guy who was running it left and we ended up showing people how to use it. Monday night dinner was in the hotel and the entertainment was the Rat Pack impersonators, who were hilarious. The food and conversation was good, and we got to sit with Mrs. Clements and her daughter Judy and talk the night away.

The next day was a big day since the General Session was that morning at 9:30, which is where they reveal all the new promotions for the next year. Of course they are all top secret, but all I can tell you is that they are AWESOME and worth the wait!! I am not at liberty to discuss, but perhaps a few hints can be obtained from the photos below (wink wink!). The performers at the General Session were The Temptations, Tina Turner, Prince, Bruce Springstein, and Elvis. So Fun!! Hopefully the video I took of them will be up soon. Afterwards it was kind of chaotic since Rod Stewart was that night and the Company Store was about to be torn down, but people were still buying away. At around 2:00 we started to pack everything up, and it is amazing that it took a whole day to put everything up but just about 2 hours to take everything down. We sold a lot, but we always hope to do better every year. WELL... That night was the Rod Stewart concert, but before that we ate dinner by the beautiful pool at the hotel. The concert wat so small and in the same room that the General Session had been, so Rod was so close! He sang all of his hits, and everyone had a blast. After the concert we all had to go back up to our rooms to pack, but one of the best parts of the convention was yet to come!!

On Wednesday morning was the farewell brunch, and there is always a guest entertainer after the breakfast portion. There were very unconfirmed rumors that it was going to be Jack Black, but I don't think he would have been as well recieved as the person who was actually there. To our surprise, it was Bill Engvall of "Here's Your Sign" and Blue Collar TV fame! I don't think we stopped laughing for an hour and a half straight. SO FUNNY! I would definitely recommend seeing him live. It was a great way to end the convention, and all the new contacts we made were worth every second of all the hard work we did. It was a great trip, and we hope you all enjoy the pics below!!
